She fell flat on her face with a small cry of pain, unable to even stop her fall. She pushed herself onto one knee and then stood again and ran after them. "No! Let him go!"
The lead scientist grabbed her arm and threw her back onto the ground. "Should we kill them both sir?"

The overlord laughed. "I will decide later. For now, let her watch him die..." He laughed and walked into the room. He approached Patrick who was hanging upside down and out a dagger to his throat.

Patrick heard the scientists comment. "Leave her the hell alone, she's not part of this!." The dagger was put to his throat and he gulped loudly. " Can't we talk about this?"

"NO!!!" She screamed, struggling against the scientists holding her back. "No, let him go!!!" Her mind was racing, trying to think of something that would keep the Overlord from killing him.

The overlord made a slight nick on the side of Patrick's neck. An un lethal wound until blood loss. "Perhaps you two should have one last moment before I come back and finish the job?" He laughed and left the room. His staff followed.

Patrick winced in pain. The overlord left. "Son of a bitch....Faey, I'm really sorry...." Blood trickled down his neck and began to slowly cover the bottom of the tank.

She walked over to the tank, wishing she could fly up to him. "It isn't your fault Patrick... He... He won't really kill you right? He can't!" Her voice faltered and shook.

"He can...and he probably will. I have no idea..what's in store for you..or me.." His eyes lit up and he began swinging back and fourth.

She seemed confused. "Patrick, what are you doing?" Then her eyes lit up and she looked at the hook. "Do you think you'll be able to get off that before they get back?"

"As long as I try..." He continued swinging and the small loop kept moving up and down the shaft of the hook. He finally gave one last jolt of energy and the loop slid off. He fell to the ground hard, falling 6 feet and landing on his back. He struggled with his wrist restraints. "Faey, see if there's anything in here that we could free ourselves with" He whispered.

She nodded and began looking around, then by some stroke of luck... "Hey, they left that knife in here!" She whispered, running over to it and taking it carefully, turning it towards her own wrists and carefully trying to cut the ropes. It was sharper than she'd thought and cut through them easily, almost slicing her wrist as well. She then ran over to Patrick. "I don't think this will cut through steel..."

"Like hell! Last time I did I ended up getting tied up and dragged back here same as you. There's no way you're convincing me to go without you this time!" She tried to pull out the knot on the steel cords- if they'd been tied you should be able to untie them, right?- but they seemed solid. "Do you think you'll be able to take the clip off my wing? There's got to be, like, some hedge clippers or something that will cut through these cords."

She turned her back to him, lowering her wings with the clip to his hand. "I can't reach back there, but if this is the same kind of clip they used at the testing facility then it should have a little release button on the side.."
